Chardonnay

Chardonnay is a multifaceted grape variety that is expressed in a wide variety of styles and textures. Region is a large contributor to this variance. A region’s microclimate and soil composition define the fruit flavors and aromas of wine which is why we source Geode Chardonnay from Santa Barbara County. The best California Chardonnays come from cool-climate regions like Santa Barbara County which offers bright, intense fruit flavors with complexity and structure.

Crafted for Quality

Wine LeafThe 2006 Santa Barbara County growing season was long and cool, ensuring Geode’s Chardonnay grapes had extended hang time, which produced concentrated flavors. The fresh, pure juice was fermented in French oak barrels, then underwent malolactic fermentation (which converts tart malic acid to creamy lactic acid) and aged sur lie (on the yeast lees) in barrel for 8 months, with frequent stirring of the lees.

Winemaker Notes

Melissa Bates Our debut vintage of Geode Chardonnay perfectly captures the marvelous terroir of Santa Barbara County. It offers bright tropical fruit aromas complemented by enticing honey, toasted oak and baked bread scents. On the rich, full-bodied palate, Geode delivers lush, creamy, tropical fruit flavors balanced by crisp acidity and a refreshing, mineral-tinged finish. This earth-friendly Chardonnay is delicious to the core and will wonderfully complement rich seafood, poultry and vegetarian dishes.
